What is the South India Online Study Expo?

The South India Online Study Expo is a free virtual university fair held from 14 to 17 October 2027 as part of the World Study Expo online programme. It covers ten cities including Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi and Coimbatore, and lets students book one-to-one video meetings with international admissions representatives.

South India supplies one of the largest flows of internationally mobile students anywhere in the world, and it is weighted differently from the rest of the country. A very large share of demand is postgraduate rather than undergraduate: students complete an engineering or science degree at a local institution, work for a year or two, and then apply abroad for a masters.

That changes what universities need to bring. Conversations here are frequently about specialisation, research groups, assistantships and graduate employment outcomes rather than campus life. Students arrive having already read the department page, and the questions are specific.

The region is also not uniform. Kerala's healthcare and nursing pipeline behaves nothing like Hyderabad's postgraduate computing pipeline, and a recruiter who treats the whole south as one market will misread both.

Reading the South India market accurately

Postgraduate demand dominates

Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai generate a very large volume of masters applications, particularly in computing, data science, electrical engineering and allied fields. These applicants are older, more self-directed and considerably better informed than undergraduate applicants. They compare funding packages and graduate salary outcomes, not campus photographs.

Kerala runs on a different logic

Kochi, Trivandrum and coastal Karnataka including Mangalore sustain a long-established healthcare and nursing pipeline oriented towards the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany and Australia. Registration requirements, language thresholds for regulated professions and post-qualification work routes matter more here than institutional ranking, and families often have relatives already working in those systems.

Tier-two cities are growing and under-served

Coimbatore, Vizag, Hubli and Mysore all produce substantial numbers of qualified applicants but receive far less direct attention from international institutions than the three metros. Online delivery reaches them at no extra cost, and response rates from these cities are often stronger for exactly that reason.

Education loans shape the decision

A large proportion of South Indian students fund study abroad through education loans, frequently secured against family property. This makes total cost, course duration and realistic graduate earnings central to the conversation. Recruiting postgraduates from South India

The applicants here are the most self-directed in the programme. They will have compared your department against three others before they book the meeting, and they will ask about funding within the first five minutes. Send someone who can discuss a specific programme, not an institutional overview.

The other opportunity is geographic. Almost all in-person recruitment activity concentrates on three cities. An online edition covering ten gives access to a qualified applicant pool that competitors are structurally unable to reach.

Which cities does the South India edition cover?

Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Trivandrum, Coimbatore, Vizag, Hubli, Mangalore and Mysore. Because the event is online, students anywhere in South India can attend.

When does the South India edition run?

Thursday 14 to Sunday 17 October 2027. Sessions are Thursday and Friday from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Indian Standard Time.

Is it free?

Yes. Registration and attendance are free for students and parents.

I am applying for a masters, not an undergraduate degree. Is this for me?

Very much so. Postgraduate study is the largest single strand of the South India edition, particularly in computing, engineering and data science.

I am a nursing student in Kerala. Which destinations should I look at?

The United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany and Australia all recruit nursing and allied health graduates, but each has its own registration requirements and language thresholds. Ask institutions specifically about professional registration, not just about admission.

Can I ask about scholarships and assistantships?

Yes, and you should ask by name. Ask which specific awards you would be eligible for, what they are worth, whether they are renewable and when they close.

Will universities discuss education loans?

Universities cannot arrange loans, but they can give you the accurate cost figures that lenders require, including tuition, living costs and the full duration of the programme.

I live in a smaller city. Will universities take me seriously?

Yes. The online format means an applicant in Hubli or Vizag has exactly the same access to an admissions officer as one in Bengaluru.

How long are one-to-one meetings?

Most run between fifteen and thirty minutes, depending on the institution. Booking in advance secures the slots you want.

Can I attend the North India week as well?

Yes. One free registration covers every edition in the four-week online programme.
