What is the Indonesia Online Study Expo?
The Indonesia Online Study Expo is a free virtual university fair held from 28 to 31 October 2027 as part of the World Study Expo online programme. Students across Indonesia can attend live sessions and book one-to-one video meetings with international admissions representatives.
Indonesia is the largest population in Southeast Asia and, by some distance, the most difficult to cover physically. Students are spread across thousands of islands, and a fair in Jakarta is effectively inaccessible to most of the country. This is the market where online delivery changes the economics most dramatically.
Australia holds a strong position here for reasons of proximity, cost and a large established alumni community, and the Netherlands retains historic educational links. Institutions from elsewhere should expect to explain their destination as well as their university.

Scale, distance and destination habit
Geography makes physical recruitment impractical
No realistic travel schedule covers Indonesia. Recruiters visit Jakarta and occasionally Surabaya, which leaves the overwhelming majority of the population unreached. Online delivery is not a compromise in this market; it is the only way to reach it at scale.
Australia is the incumbent
Proximity, cost, a familiar system and a large Indonesian alumni community give Australian institutions a strong default position. Universities from other countries need to address that comparison directly rather than ignore it.
Cost sensitivity is real and varies widely
Indonesia spans a very wide income range. Scholarships, part-scholarships and lower-cost destinations materially expand the addressable market, and institutions that can be specific about funding reach students that others cannot.
Family and faith considerations belong in the conversation

Ask why this country, not just this university
Australia is the default for good reasons. Asking every other institution what their destination offers that Australia does not is the fastest way to make a real comparison.
Raise funding early
Costs vary enormously across destinations. Asking about scholarships in the first five minutes tells you quickly whether an option is realistic for your family.
Ask the practical questions
Halal provision, prayer facilities and the size of the Indonesian student community are reasonable questions and institutions expect them.

The clearest case for online recruitment anywhere in the programme
If an institution is going to run one online edition in Southeast Asia, Indonesia is the one where the gap between addressable market and reachable market is widest.
Be prepared to explain why your destination rather than Australia, and to be specific about funding. Both questions come up early.

Is the Indonesia Online Study Expo free?
Yes. Registration and attendance are free for students and parents across Indonesia.
When does it run?
Thursday 28 to Sunday 31 October 2027. Thursday and Friday from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Western Indonesian Time.
I do not live in Jakarta. Can I still take part?
Yes, and that is largely the point. Students anywhere in Indonesia have the same access as students in the capital.
Why should I consider somewhere other than Australia?
Australia is an excellent option and very well established for Indonesian students. Other destinations may offer different programmes, funding or work rights, and this is the right forum to compare them directly.
Are scholarships available for Indonesian students?
Many institutions offer them. Ask by name about specific awards, their value, eligibility criteria and deadlines rather than whether scholarships exist in general.
Will universities discuss halal food and prayer facilities?
They should, and you should ask. These are reasonable and common questions, and institutions with good provision are usually glad to explain it.
My English is not yet at the required level. What are my options?
Ask about pre-sessional English, foundation years and conditional offers. Most institutions have a route, and it is worth knowing how long it adds.
